Everyday we see our grandparents complaining about back pains they suffer. As we grow, at some point in life we may also experience back pain and the list of possible causes is long- being overweight, smoking, poor habits of heating, etc. And the number one cause is aging. As we age, the disks between the vertebrae wear away and shrink, which causes pain and stiffness as the bones start to rub against each other. In addition, the space around our spinal cord narrows over time. This condition, known as spinal stenosis, also puts pressure on the cord and spinal nerves, causing pain. Decreased bone mass, or osteoporosis, can also make the vertebrae vulnerable to fractures. The facet joints where each vertebra meets those vertebrae above and below, may also begin to degenerate, which is known as spinal arthritis. One of the regular ways in which we reduce the back pains are by providing heat to our backs.
