Social Problem
According to WHO, 39 million people are estimated as blind worldwide. They are suffer lots of hardships in their daily life. The affected ones have been using the traditional white cane for many years which although being effective, still has a lot of disadvantages. Another way is, having a pet animal such as a dog, but it is really expensive. So the aim of our project is to develop a cheap and more efficient way to help visually impaired people to navigate with greater comfort, speed and confidence. Through our product, we have made an effort to help the visually impaired become independent in their life.
Product Description
SCAN CANE- Third eye for the visually impaired
“The Visionaries” bring to you the Scan Cane. It is a walking stick designed to help the visually impaired. It notifies the user of an obstacle in their path by the way of a buzzer and vibration of the handle. The Scan Cane sends out sound waves of ultrasonic frequency (higher than the human audible range) and uses the concept of echo to measure distance. The intensity of vibration and rate of beeping increases with decrease in distance. It is powered by a li-ion battery. The walking stick is also equipped with a water sensor that warns the user of any water pool in their way. In addition to this, the Scan Cane also has a reflective surface.
